What it is

Dejale is a sterile, biodegradable, isotonic intradermal gel with non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid of medium chain length (1.0–1.5 × 10⁶ Dalton), obtained from Streptococcus equi and formulated at 40 mg/2 ml in a physiological phosphate buffer. Manufactured by Mesorga S.r.l., Milan.

Mechanism of action

The hyaluronic acid is in its natural form without cross-linking agent and is injected intradermally at medium depth for biorevitalisation and correction of skin contour irregularities. The product is not intended as a volume filler.

Indications and treatment areas

Skin contour irregularities associated with ageing or degenerative changes. Intradermal injection only. Not to be used in combination with laser treatment, chemical peeling or dermabrasion, and no clinical data exist for injection into areas already treated with another filler.

Treatment protocol

  • Technique: linear technique or picotage, intradermally at medium depth, with the supplied 30G ½″ needle.
  • Frequency: initial course of three treatments one week apart, optionally followed by monthly maintenance treatments.
  • Dosage: depends on the wrinkle or depression to be corrected; assessed by the physician.

Expected results

Correction of skin contour irregularities associated with ageing. Inflammatory reactions (redness, oedema) may occur for up to one week after injection.

CE-marked medical device (syringe CE 1984, needles CE 0318). Non-pyrogenic, sterilised by moist heat. The box contains two batch labels for the patient record and the patient. For physician use only. Store at 2–25 °C.

What is the difference between Dejale and an HA filler?

Dejale contains non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid in its natural form and is injected intradermally for biorevitalisation and correction of skin contour irregularities. A cross-linked filler is formulated to add volume. Dejale is not a volume product.

Which injection techniques does the IFU describe?

The IFU specifies linear technique or picotage, intradermally at medium depth, with the supplied 30G ½″ needle. The product must only be used by physicians with specific training in the injection technique, and must not be injected into blood vessels, bone, tendons, ligaments, muscles or moles.

Can Dejale be combined with other aesthetic treatments?

No – not in the same treatment. The IFU states that Dejale must not be used in combination with laser treatment, chemical peeling or dermabrasion. There are also no clinical data for injection into an area already treated with another filler.

What are the contraindications for Dejale?

Not to be used in patients prone to hypertrophic scarring, with autoimmune disease or on immunotherapy, with known hypersensitivity to hyaluronic acid, in pregnant or breastfeeding women, or in patients under 18. Patients on anticoagulants or antiplatelet agents should consult a physician. Not to be used in areas with inflammatory or infectious skin processes (e.g. acne, herpes). Possible side effects: redness, oedema and tenderness for up to one week, nodules if placed too superficially, discolouration.
