Poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) is a resorbable material that has been in medical use for several decades, among other things in sutures. In an aesthetic context it exists both as a CE marked injectable biostimulator and in cosmetic, topical formulations. The two groups differ in regulatory terms, and the classification is stated on each individual product page.
A hyaluronic acid filler provides volume immediately and is broken down gradually. PLLA works on a different timescale: the result is built up over several months and typically requires a series of treatments six to eight weeks apart. That makes the product group relevant where the aim is gradual build-up rather than immediate correction, and it places greater demands on patient information about the course of treatment.
