What it is

aesPlla® is a sterile, absorbable dermal filler based on poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), manufactured by Oreon Life Science in South Korea. It is supplied as a freeze-dried powder: one vial contains 365 mg, of which 150 mg is PLLA, and is reconstituted in the clinic before injection.

How it works

PLLA is a biocompatible synthetic polymer. After injection, the microparticles stimulate the fibroblasts in the dermis to increase collagen formation, so volume builds up gradually. The effect is not immediate. PLLA is broken down by the body over time. Sodium carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) acts as the carrier and keeps the particles evenly suspended, while mannitol stabilises the powder.

Suitable for

Indications: correction of nasolabial folds, facial wrinkles and deep dermal defects. Relevant treatment areas are the nasolabial area, cheeks, temples, marionette lines and scars. For use only by authorised healthcare professionals trained in PLLA injection.

Treatment protocol

1. Reconstitution: add 5 ml sterile water for injection using an 18G needle. Leave for 3 hours to dissolve completely.
2. Withdrawal: 18G sterile needle and 1/3 ml syringe.
3. Injection: 26G cannula or needle using the Linear Thread Technique, into the deep dermis, lower dermis or hypodermis.
4. Aftercare: the patient massages the treated area for 5 minutes, 5 times a day for 5 days (the 5×5×5 rule).

Format: 1 vial of 365 mg freeze-dried powder (150 mg PLLA). Once reconstituted, the product is stable for 72 hours and must then be discarded.

What to expect

Results develop gradually as collagen forms, not immediately after treatment. Number of sessions, interval and expected duration are assessed for each patient according to the instructions for use (IFU).
