Aesthetic medicine

What is aesthetic medicine?

Aesthetic medicine, also known as cosmetic medicine, is a medical discipline that focuses on improving a person's physical appearance by offering non-surgical treatments and procedures. The aim of aesthetic medicine is to help patients achieve their desired appearance, correct signs of ageing or address cosmetic concerns.

These treatments are usually elective and are performed to enhance patients' self-esteem and confidence.

Some common treatments and procedures within aesthetic medicine include:

  1. Botox and fillers: Injections of substances such as botulinum toxin (Botox) and hyaluronic acid-based fillers to reduce wrinkles, fine lines and give the face a younger appearance.

  2. Laser treatments: The use of laser beams to treat a range of skin issues, including scars, pigmentation spots, unwanted hair growth and skin rejuvenation.

  3. Skincare treatments: This may include chemical peels, microdermabrasion and skincare products to improve the skin's texture and tone.

  4. Non-surgical fat reduction treatments: Procedures such as cryolipolysis and ultrasound treatments that reduce unwanted fatty tissue.

  5. Facial and body treatments: These include facelifts, thread lifts, breast augmentation, breast reduction and other procedures that provide improvements to the body's shape and contour.

Aesthetic medicine typically involves minimal to no surgery, and many procedures can be performed at a medical clinic or skincare clinic. Patients can return to their normal activities relatively quickly after many of these treatments.
